A female Passenger Pigeon mounted, secured with wire to branch and attached to a square wooden base.
The skin was given to Samuel Henry Drew, the first Director of the Wanganui Public Museum, by Dr Otto Finsch, a German Natural Philosopher and explorer. Drew mounted the skin for exhibition. The Passenger Pigeon, or Wild Pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius), was indigenous to North America, until the early 20th century when it became extinct due to over-hunting and habitat destruction.
