A lithograph invitation designed by Benoni White and printed by A D Willis, issuing an invitation to a Maori Demonstration during the Royal Visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901.
There is a portrait of the Duke and Duchess (later King George V and his consort Queen Mary) at the top left corner with the royal coat of arms above them, and stylised portraits in the top centre of the invitation. A Maori woman wearing a tasselled korowai stands at the left edge of the invitation holding a banner which reads "Haere Mai", and there is an image of a Maori man's face with full moko on the right of the invitation. The text panel in the lower left quadrant invites the recipient to attend a Maori Demonstration to be held in Rotorua on Saturday 15th June 1901, at the request of His Majesty's Ministers in Honour of the Royal Visit. There is space allocated to write the invitee's name but this has not been filled out. A background image of Rotorua features a view of the lake with an island, people in three waka on the water, a large building to the right with people standing in front, as well as illustrations of geothermal features and flora of the area. The invitation is mounted onto a textured beige card.
