Brief Description |
This handmade doll is called a "Struwwelpeter". His body, arms and legs are made of beige cotton knit and his feet, hands and face made of cotton. The face is hand-drawn with a very mischievous look. The doll has thick cream cotton strands depicting very messy hair. A pointed hat made from green cotton with a mustard coloured trim is detachable. Around his neck is a removable collar with triangular shapes attached. He is wearing a green cotton tunic with a triangular scalloped hem, a brown cotton waistband and long sleeves. On his feet are hand-sewn kid-skin boots with pointed toes and fold-over tops.
The doll belonged to the donor's great great aunt.
Struwwelpeter (Shaggy Peter) originated in 1845 as the main character in a book by Dr Heinrich Hoffman, a German psychiatrist. Struwwelpeter's main aim in life is to scare small children into good behaviour through a series of violent moral tales, vividly illustrated.
