This portable desk is made of heavily varnished wood with an inlaid brass binding stripe across the lid, brass-enforced corners and a brass decorative shape in centre top of lid. The desk has a fold-out writing surface covered with blue leather decorated with a gold border. The interior also has a sectioned tray. There is a pull-out drawer at one end of the desk and it also has a key.
The desk has a secret drawer that contained papers about the Marton Cadet Corps and a Mr Galpin when it arrived at the Museum in 1956. The secret drawer is beneath the sectioned tray and can be opened by pulling upwards.
