Name/Title STOLE
Brief Description This stole comes from the old St Mary's Catholic Church which was located in Victoria Avenue, Whanganui. It is made of soft yellow silk and embroidered with ears of wheat set in the form of crosses and trimmed with a gold fringe. A piece of white linen is stitched onto the back of the collar to prevent staining from sweat.

The stole is a liturgical vestment made of a band of coloured cloth. It is worn around the neck of the priest with the ends hanging down in front. While linked to the scarf of office in Roman times, today it symbolises the bonds that bound Jesus of Nazareth before his crucifixion.
