Hand tinted copy photograph of John Davis Collard wearing the uniform of a private soldier in the 65th Regiment. Collard is seated, right arm resting on a smalll table upon which sits his shako with the badge of the 65th Regiment. This is a copy of the original photograph, matted and mounted in a modern gold painted frame. Label underneath photograph reads, "John Davis Collard/Born: August 1837 - Died: 6 December 1922[1926]/Private in 65th Regiment of Foot/Seargeant in Wanganui Rifle Volunteers/Last living member of Wanganui's quota of 65th Regiment". John Davis Collard was born in Salisbury in 1st August 1837 and came to New Zealand with the 65th Regiment. He married Mary Ann Mahar in 1861 and they had six children: John Davis born 1864 Beatrice Eliza born 1866 Henry born 1867, died 1868 aged 9months William born 1868 (William and his wife Charlotte had 21 children) George Michael born 1870 Thomas Phillipps born 1874 Mary Ann passed away in April 1875 aged 31, and John remarried to Mattie Marie Reimart in October that year. They had two children: Amy Matilda in 1877 and John David in 1881. John died on 6th December 1922 aged 85 years.
