Brief Description Sepia original carte de visite photograph of Major Bluett. Man wears a dark coat with black lapels, worn buttoned over lighter toned dress trousers. Man has moustache and mutton-chops style beard and cropped hair.
Embossed below the image is: "W.J. HARDING" and a hand written paper label reads "Major Bluett" in black ink.

Charles Blewitt was born in 1825. He purchased an army commission as Ensign in the 65th Regiment in 1846 followed by a Captaincy in 1855, and arrived in New Zealand in 1854. He later became a Major of the 65th Regiment and when he retired in 1884 he was reported as being a General.
Major Charles Blewitt married Isabella Blanche on 5th January 1870, at Bath, United Kingdom. He is also thought to have married a Miss Nixon (no record on Births, Deaths & Marriages NZ), and to have had one daughter Annie (mother named Waka) and possibly a son.
Major Blewitt passed away in 1908 in South Kensington, United Kingdom.
