This black and white photograph is of Wanganui Boys' School and is mounted on a beige card. The photograph was presented to Tom (Thomas) Spurdle as a 2nd class certificate for regular attendance, at Christmas 1897.
It is a studio portrait of a group of young boys in three rows with a teacher in the centre. The back row is standing, the middle row is seated and the front row is seated on the floor. Thomas is identified as 8th from the left in the second row. His brother Fred Spurdle is in the back row, 6th from the left.
