"J L Stevenson Esq, JP/Wanganui/May, 1915/Dear Sir/On your retirement from the position of Honorary Secretary of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, which you have occupied with such conspicuous ability for the past 18 years, we cannot let the occasion pass without placing on record the keen appreciation of the members of the Chamber of such long and faithful service. During the period you have been secretary, the business of the Chamber of Commerce has grown very materially, until now it is one of the most important Public bodies in Wanganui./As the active executive officer, no labour on your part has been too great for you to undertake, and we sincerely regret that you feel called upon to resign your duties. You have, however, well earned your leisure, and we heartily wish you many years of good health and continued prosperity./We ask your acceptance of this address and feel sure that the views of Old and New Wanganui placed hereon, will revive many pleasant memories whilst showing the progress of the town where you have been a citizen all your lifetime./With best Wishes,/On behalf of the Members of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce,/Alfred Burnett [sig]/President".
