Name/Title BARREL, BISCUIT
Brief Description This blue glass biscuit barrel is decorated with hand-painted images of date palms, pyramids and a person riding a camel. It has a silver-plated handle and lid stamped with EPNS on the underside.

It was probably purchased as a souvenir by Charles Frederick Bollen Perrin when he served in Egypt. Fred, as he was known, had enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps on 19 August 1914, and was deployed to use his training as a dispensing chemist. He left New Zealand on the SS Arawa on 15 October 1914. He arrived in Alexandria, Egypt on 3 December 1914 and for part of his stay in Egypt was stationed at the Zeitoun Camp. Fred left Egypt for the Dardanelles on 7 April 1915.
