Name/Title CARD, CHRISTMAS; The Ladder Scene, Whanganui River
Brief Description This Christmas card has a colour-tinted photograph of a waka pulled up along the bank of the Whanganui River, with two people climbing a ladder up the steep cliff. This scene is commonly called "The Ladder Scene".

North of Pipiriki, vine ladders made Maori cliff-top settlements accessible from the Whanganui River. Arawhata, the name of the area, actually means ladder.

The photo is glued to a grey card mount with "Compliments of the Season" printed in gold lettering below the image.
