Brief Description This tufted wool rug was made of coloured wools worked through a hessian base and is backed with more hessian. It was made during World War I.

A Union Jack and a White Ensign mark this as a piece of work by a sailor in the Royal Navy. (The White Ensign is flown on British Royal Navy ships and shore establishments.) To further confirm the naval link, an anchor and wreathed marine rope form part of the design. "HOME SWEET HOME" is embroidered onto a love heart.
