Brief Description |
This small silver decorative cradle was presented to Mayor Alexander Hatrick in 1901 after the birth of his son, Alexander Clyde Hatrick, who was the donor's grandfather. The maker was Whanganui jeweller, and Curator of the Museum, Samuel Drew.
A small plaque attached to the commemorative piece reads, "Presented to A Hatrick Esqre / BY THE BOROUGH COUNCILLORS / on the occasion of a son being born to him / DURING HIS MAYORALITY JANY 1901."
The cradle is suspended by three chains from a horizontal rod supported by two posts decorated with scrolled work. The exterior of the cradle is adorned with silver scroll work and the interior is gilded.
