Brief Description |
This printed programme of a "Civic Concert given in hour of HRH the Prince of Wales" in Whanganui on 30 April 1920 is notable for its extraordinarily lush presentation. The concert programme, held at His Majesty's Theatre in Whanganui, was a musical presentation from Whanganui solo singers and instrumentalists, the Band of the 7th Regiment (Wanganui Garrison), the Wanganui Male Choir and Ladies of Wanganui.
Its cover is made of printed cream silk and hand-painted framing around gold text and a gold heraldic symbol of the Prince of Wales, the three white ostrich feathers emerging from a gold coronet under which is the motto "Ich dien" (I Serve). The silk is stretched over card, which is lined on the inner front and back covers with purple and gold marbled paper. The text is printed in purple ink and has gold print and embellishments for adornment. A purple cord, tied along the spine in a fancy double knot, holds the programme cover and pages together.
