This sepia-toned studio photograph of John Herbert Scott is mounted on brown card and shows him seated on a wicker chair with one arm resting on a table, upon which sits a small shaggy terrier dog. Scott wears a dark suit with a large corsage on the lapel. This image is identified on the reverse as "Uncle Jack Scott, NZ".
John Scott was born in 1886 in Hammersmith, London, to William and Bessie Scott. He migrated to New Zealand where he married married Ann Kirkland on 25 October 1913 in Whanganui. He was a bootmaker and owned Scott's Shoe Store in Aramoho, Whanganui. Scott died in 1958 aged 71, and his wife died in 1960 aged 76 years.
