A black and white panoramic photograph taken from Durie Hill in Whanganui, looking out over Taupo Quay with Victoria Avenue to the right. The numbers in pencil on the front correspond with information provided on the reverse: 1 = Mrs Day's home. 2 = Gudgeon's store. 3 = W J Owens Chemist (who sold business to his two assistants J Wakefield and A B Hogg, their assistant A E Kitchen was next owner). 4 = Revell's shop. 5 = H M Austins & G.D. 6 = H I Jones sho 7 = Taylor & Watt's store. 8 = The Waters store (then John Duthie then Jas Thain then Mason Struthers). 9 = Wesleyan old Church. 10 = Mechanic's Institute. 11 = Rutland Hotel. 12 = York stockade. 13 = Christ Church (old). 14 = Roman Catholic Church. 15 = Hacketts Hotel. 16 = J.O Taylor's res (militia office). 17 = Burnetts shop. 18 = P & B Bells. 19 = C[...[Cunnable/Cunnabell?]] & Hurleys. 20 = Thos Powell 21 = Thos Allen (previously occupied by Mrs Garner).
