Name/Title FOSSIL; VERTEBRAE, DOLPHIN
Brief Description Embedded in this mudstone block are three fossilised dolphin lumbar vertebrae. It was found about 30 miles up the Waitotara Valley in 1969.

This specimen is from the Tangahoe Formation mudstones, exposed in the cliffs of South Taranaki, and formed in the Pliocene period, 3.5 to 3.8 Ma.
