Name/Title PHOTOGRAPH; Mr Alfred Burnett
Brief Description This black and white carte de visite photograph is of Mr Alfred Burnett. It is a modern reprint of a head and torso studio portrait. He wears a striped buttoned waistcoat under dark jacket. His white collar is tied at the neck with a narrow ribbon bow tie. He has a moustache and a short beard and his hair is side-parted and styled at the front.

Alfred Burnett was born in England, the youngest son of Joseph A Burnett, in 1854. He arrived in New Zealand with his parents on the "Hastings" in 1856 and was educated at Wanganui College. He managed Oneida at Fordell and also Sandridge Hall in Whanganui. He married Euphemia Hamilton Anderson, the eldest and only surviving daughter of Thomas Anderson of Preston Hill, on 11 August 1875. The couple had four children, three daughters and a son. Burnett died at Wanganui in 1922.
