Man is clean shaven and has cropped hair. The subject's name is partially visible in black along the right edge of the image.
James William Baker was born in England on 21 March 841, and came to New Zealand with his parents via a chartered ship from Australia in 1855. He became a member of the Kai Iwi Cavalry, farmed at Warrengate, was a member of the Education Board and Chairman of the Warrengate Flour Mill in 1879. James married Emily Harrison (daughter of HS Harrison) at the Matarawa Church on 19 April 66. Together they had the following children:
James Harrison born 1867, married Janet Elizabeth Livingstone in 1909
Ellen Agnes Edith born 1874, died in 1880 aged 6 years
Amy Henrietta Mabel born 1877, married Charles Griffith Johnson in 1908
James died on 15 December 1919, aged 77 years. Emily died on 15 August 1923 aged 84 years.
