Brief Description |
This acrylic paint-on-canvas painting is of a branch of hydrangeas with leaves of a vibrant green with gold edges. The flowers are made up of small blue buds with larger pink and red flowerets; a black and green dragonfly has landed on the flowers.
The signature of the Japanese artist is in the lower right corner. The painting is matted with beige canvas and framed in wood with a gold-painted inner frame.
The painting was donated to this Museum by the Nagaizumi-Wanganui Sister City Friendship Centre located in Whanganui. The Friendship Centre was established to promote a better understanding of the culture of Japan and the people of Nagaizumi and to further educational, cultural and sporting exchanges between the two communities. The Friendship Centre closed in 2015 but Nagaizumi and Whanganui, sister cities since 1988, maintain their close relationship.
