This small, bronze oil lamp was collected by the donor when he travelled the world in the early 20th century.
Oil lamps are lit at shrines before a deity or a plaque with Classical Chinese characters giving the name of the deity. A cork is attached to a wick is placed on top of the oil with the bottom of the wick submerged. They are kept burning in private or public shrines and joss sticks are lit from their flame.
