Hugh Middleton was born in 1868, and worked as a farmer in Waverley. On 22 July 1909 he married Elizabeth Brown, born in 1884, the third daughter of Francis Brown. They had the following children:

John Knox born 1915
Hugh died in 1944 aged 81 years and Elizabeth died in 1942 aged 58 years.
