John Muir and his wife Catherine (nee Boyd) came to New Zealand from Glasgow and settled in Waverley where John worked as a draper. He served as a Church Office Bearer in 1885, and also on the School Committee in 1882
Catherine and John had the following children in New Zealand: Marian/Maring Christie born 1868, died aged 6 months Agnes Patterson born 1871 Walter born 1874 William John Wilson born 1875, married Eva Laura Russell 1904 Effie Catherine born 1880

Catherine died on 10 September 1929 aged 82 years.
