Brief Description This black and white head and shoulders portrait is of John Muir of Whanganui. He is an elderly man with blue eyes, white hair and moustache, wearing a dark suit and a polka dot bow tie.

John Muir and his wife Catherine (nee Boyd) came to New Zealand from Glasgow and settled in Waverley where John worked as a draper. He served as a Church Office Bearer in 1885, and also on the School Committee in 1882
