Brief Description This black and white head and shoulders portrait of a young man looking away from the camera is William John Wilson Muir of Whanganui. He has pale eyes and a curled fringe and is wearing a white shirt and dark suit with a white flower in his lapel.

William Muir was born in 1875, the son of John and Catherine. He attended Waverley School where he achieved high marks and several mentions in the academic reports of the local newspapers. On 20 April 1904 he married Eva Laura Russell, daughter of Mr and Mrs A S Russell of "Whereoka", Sentinel Road, Ponsonby, Auckland. No births are recorded for the pair. William Muir died in 1947 aged 72 years.
