Brief Description This china plate forms part of a series of temperance plates. It has a scalloped rim and a coloured transfer print of a street scene of a woman and two children begging outside a public house. Printed on the plate around the scene is "THE BOTTLE / PLATE IV - UNABLE TO OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT / THEY ARE DRIVEN BY POVERTY INTO THE STREETS TO BEG / AND BY THIS MEANS THEY STILL SUPPLY THE BOTTLE".
