Brief Description This metric 30 cm wooden ruler is inlaid across the centre with 14 rectangular examples of native New Zealand timbers, name beneath. They are: sample woods are, from left to right, rimu, tawa, totara, taraire, kahikatea, kohekohe, kauri, pukatea, tawa, matai, towai, tanekaha, rewarewa, rata and miro.

The ruler is marked, between the measurement scale and the samples, with "NEW ZEALAND TIMBERS". "SOVEREIGN" is stamped between the 26 cm and 28 cm marks.
