Rev. Rainsford Bavin was a member of the Foregin & Bible Society and succeeded the Rev. J. Berry as a Methodist Minister in Whanganui. He took up the position in 1875, and and was the first minister in Aramoho. Under his leadership the Methodist Church was expanded to accommodate the growing congregation, a school room was built, and new churches were built in Aramoho, Springvale and Upokongaro.
Rainsford and his wife Emma had the following children while residing in New Zealand:

Rev. Bavin was succeeded by Rev. W. Lee 1878 and the family eventually relocated to Australia, where he died in Sydeny on 3 August 1905.
