Brief Description |
These are ten bones (one leg, partial pelvis, three ribs, sternum, and two vertebrae) from an individual Little Spotted Kiwi, collected by Taylor Brown from a tomo or sinkhole on Motukawa Land Co Ltd farm, Moawhango Valley Road near Taihape in December 2000, and donated by landowner Warren Plimmer. Little Spotted Kiwi (Apteryx owenii), our smallest kiwi species, were formerly common on the mainland of New Zealand but declined in the 19th century, and are now restricted to predator-free sanctuaries.
