Brief Description |
These are twelve bones (tibiotarsi, humeri, ulnae, radius, tarsometatarsus, mandible, rib, and partial pelvis) from an individual Kakapo, collected by Taylor Brown from a tomo or sinkhole on Motukawa Land Co Ltd farm, Moawhango Valley Road near Taihape in December 2000, and donated by landowner Warren Plimmer. Kakapo is a giant flightless nocturnal parrot, foraging on the forest floor and camouflaged against daytime predators. They are critically endangered, surviving only in predator-free sanctuaries, but were once found throughout New Zealand.
