Brief Description |
These bathing trunks belonged to William (Billy) Webb, World Champion rower of Whanganui. He wore them when he raced against Richard Arnst on 15 December 1908 on the Whanganui River. Arnst won and took Billy Webb's world title as Single Sculls Champion.
The man's black knitted ribbed bathing suit has loops at the waist for a belt. The suit has a gusseted crotch and an extra front panel sewn into the side and waist seams. A white seagull is embroidered on to the black fabric at lower left.
