John Scott was born in 1886 in Hammersmith, London, to William and Bessie Scott. Ann Kirkland was born in 1883 in Marykirk, Scotland, to William and Mary Scott. They married on 25 October 1913 in Whanganui and had two children. John was a bootmaker and owned Scott's Shoe Store in Aramoho, Whanganui. John died in 1958 aged 71, and Ann died in 1960 aged 76 years.
