Poi, a pair of poi balls with short handles and a tassle attached to each end.
a. A poi with a larger tassle has 4-ply plaited muka (processed New Zealand flax fibre) handles, 2 undyed and 2 dyed black with a thick pompom of undyed and black dyed muka attached to end, length 7 cm. b. A poi with a 4-ply twisted plait of muka and a close-clipped 5 cmlong pompom. Poi balls are made of muka encased with tissue paper and an outer layer of dried pig's bladder.
They were made by Mrs Wini Murray of Parikino in 1960 for her fourth cousin Huia Kirk of Pūtiki.
