Brief Description |
A sepia toned photograph of a vessel named the 'S. S. Gertie'. The photograph was taken from the riverbank and looks across the water towards the floatign vessel, with several people on the deck and another group of people in a dinghy sailing behind it. A typed note adhered to the reverse reads: "S.S Gertie - the Gertie was owned by Messrs Horsley and Harris Seed and Grain merchants in St Hill Street, Wanganui in the premises now occupied by H and T Burt (1975). The Harris family lived in a two-storied house in Durie Vale, (long since gone) Mr Horsley was the grandfather of Mr Allan Horsley, solicitor of Wanganui. The photo of the Gertie was presented by Mrs Emily Harris (nee Cowie) daughter of John Peters Cowie late of Fordell and Wanganui." Photograph has been mounted onto card.
