A black and white photograph showing the H.M.S "Rimu" being worked on in a drydock in Auckland. The vessel has been pulled up out of the water and is surrounded by scaffolding. A large crowd of people are watching from the ground, and another group stand on the bow of the ship. A band is visible in the foreground. The contractors for the shops were Seager Brothers for the Ironwork and Shipbuilders Ltd for the woodwork.
The H.M.S "Rimu" was a castle class minesweeper, constructed with wood on iron frames and built 1941-1942. It weighed 447 tons and was 135' x 23'6" x 13'6". It has 1 12 pounder cannon and 2 machine gune. It had a speed of 10 knots and was manned by a crew of 26-28 members. The "Rimu's" hull was sunk by the Air Force in 1958.
