One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, this print is of Bates Street from Bell Street. The Commercial Hotel is in the left foreground with a view of Bastia Hill in the far right background.
Another of the many hotels in Whanganui, the Commercial, was very close to the Wanganui Brewery, just down the road.
The bicycles propped against the wall of the pub probably belong to the clientele inside. Is a bike as dangerous as a car when the driver is under the influence?
